Although seeing our local doctor has become a tall order, we can still look after our immune system using Oriental Medicine (5,000-year-old system that uses tools like acupuncture, acupressure and diet to heal the mind and body).

Kidney 27 Location: located about one inch from the mid-line on the lower border of the collar bone.

Kidney 27 Benefits: Immune-boosting Point; Good for upper respiratory flu symptoms, shortness of breath and fatigue. The Kidney system is said to grasp Lung Qi, meaning it helps distribute the air that enters the lungs throughout the rest of the body.

Lung 7 Location: Located above the wrist on the inside of the arm, 5 cun above the transverse crease of the wrist. On the radial margin of the forearm, superior to the styloid process of the radius. (Note: make a thumbs-up sign and two fingers down on the inside of the wrist)

Lung 7 Benefits: Systematic relief of cough or sore throat.
Can be used to boost the defensive qi and immune system.
Good point to treat headaches caused by exogenous (external) pathogens, neck rigidity, facial paralysis, toothache, asthma and nasal problems.

Large Intestine 11 Location: Located on the elbow crease. The easiest way to locate it is to bend your arm and look for the end of the crease on the outer side of your bent elbow.

Large Intestine 11 Benefits: Known as a fever-reducing point; used for colds and influenza as a preventative treatment, and other immune-compromising conditions.

Large Intestine 4 Location: Between the 1st and 2nd metacarpals, on the radial aspect of the middle of the 2nd metacarpal bone, at the highest spot of the muscle when the thumb and index fingers are brought close together.

Large Intestine 14 Benefits: This is a strong point for building the immune system and can be used for when someone has a cold or the flu. Stimulation of this point can have a great effect on the flow of qi and blood in the body.

The large intestine is associated with the emotions of sadness and grief, it can help build immunity as it works as a paired channel to the lung meridian.

Lung 1 Location: On the upper lateral side of the chest, find the large hollow directly under the outer third of the collar bone, 6 cun from the mid-line of the chest.

Lung 1 Benefits: Regulates Lung Qi and stops coughing, stimulates the Lung Qi to descend, disperses fullness in the chest and stops pain. It can help with any breathing difficulties such as asthma, coughing, wheezing, nasal congestion and throat obstruction. By opening the chest, it eases chest pain and allows a more upright stance.

Lung 1 is particularly effective in clearing congestion which can help alleviate suppressed emotions such as grief or a sense of loss.

Stomach 36 Location: Located four finger widths down from the bottom of your knee cap, along the outer boundary of your shin bone. If you are in the right place, a muscle should pop out as you move your foot up and down.

Stomach 36 Benefits: Treatment of this point will energise and boost your immune system. It is also known to help with any digestive disorders. This point draws energy into the body’s internal reservoir, the “sea.”

Other Benefits: Commonly used to treat fatigue, dizziness, hypertension, tinnitus, depression, generalised pain from injuries, paralysis, chest fullness and palpitations, shortness of breath, chills and fever.

Legend of Stomach 36 otherwise known as “Leg Three Miles”: Ancient Chinese military troops would often stop each mile and stimulate Stomach 36 to give them more energy to continue their forward march during war time. Hence, the name “Leg Three Mile”.
